MARK PENZAK
A fun, action adventure story that celebrates the power of reading and books. Set in 1983, the year of the Internet and the world's first battery-driven laptop, a boy named Hugo has been ordered to read The Hobbit. Problem is, he doesn't like books. He likes computer games. So Hugo 'borrows' his fathers new laptop, sneaks it into the library and hides it in a bookcase. Suddenly the shelves spin and transport him into a mysterious and dangerous labyrinth. Trapped inside, Hugo meets Merlin the Wizard who explains the only way he can get home is by travelling through the three books he's read - Peter Pan, The Lion The Witch and the Wardrobe and The Sword and the Stone. And if that wasn't risky enough, Hugo's computer has come to life and it's eating all the books! The only way Hugo can stop the computer, save myself and the library by discovering the power and pleasure of reading. Written and performed by Mark Penzak. Music: Andrée Cozens. Merlin Puppet: Lulu Lala. Set design: Eliza-Jane Gilchrist |
